It might be too much for some, though, considering it’s essentially a port of games that are nearing 5 years old. Session: Skate Sim is a skateboard game for the Nintendo Switch. Its $14.99 USD pricetag is perhaps a little kinder on Americans than our £13.49 GBP, but it still has decent value for money. There are hours of playtime completing the various levels and challenges, and the daily grind could keep you coming back regularly. In terms of value, OlliOlli: Switch Stance certainly has a lot to offer for the price. That’s not to say that the audio is bad in OlliOlli: Switch Stance, but it definitely didn’t seem appropriate.
#OLLIOLLI SWITCH STANCE REVIEW SERIES#
The skate and Tony Hawk’s series even adopted hip-hop quite heavily towards the end of their prestige, but none of that is found here. It’s a strange mix that includes soft, subtle jazzy numbers, but I was expecting to hear rock, punk, or metal music. It’s odd and almost offputting how the soundtrack doesn’t really fit the theme, for either game. I’m afraid to say that the music doesn’t share this, though. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a skateboarding game, and it’s nice to hear it deliver. The sound effects are spot on, hitting the classic ‘wheels on tarmac’ and ‘tail hitting the floor before a trick’ sounds perfectly. My guess is the original didn’t sell well enough on those systems, which is a shame as I consider the sequel to be the far superior game. The original was released on the 3DS and on the WiiU in early 2015 but, for whatever reason, the sequel never made its way to Nintendo consoles until now. I get the skater pun involving ‘Switch Stance’ and the Nintendo Switch, but I find it odd that they didn’t stick to the same naming convention. They have also been packaged together before as a retail release for PS4, called OlliOlli: Epic Combo Edition. It really shines in handheld mode.OlliOlli: Switch Stance is a combination of 2 games – OlliOlli and the sequel, OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood. The Nintendo Switch is the perfect platform for this game. If you’re into skateboarding this game is great for a quick play while on the train or just at home on your couch. The Hollywood theme is very well designed and really suits the cartoony graphics style. OlliOlli 2 looks better than OlliOlli 1 in my opinion. The movements are fluent and the tricks are all very recognizable and distinguished. The combination of character + skateboard does the job really well.

The character doesn’t have a lot of details but that’s okay because this game is about skateboarding. OlliOlli 2 notches up the graphics to look more SNES-like. OlliOlli 1 has a charming NES-like pixelated graphics style. It feels good to land a regular 360 flip or a 180 flip down some stairs. This moves the focus more from gaining high scores to actually performing cool and realistic skateboarding tricks. If you forget to press B or press it too late, you land awkward and lose most of your trick/combo score. Ollies are of normal height and flips, spins and grinds are done at a normal speed. That last part is the hardest and most punishing. You gain speed by pressing A, do any trick by holding the left stick in a certain position and release it and press B at the moment you hit the ground to successfully land your trick/combo. The controls are really easy making the game easy to learn but hard to master.

Luckily, there are no loading screens so with a simple button press you’ll spawn at the beginning of the stage. The better you get, the more difficult combos you’ll try, causing you to bail even more. And if you think this will happen less when you get better at the controls, think again. OlliOlli is all about timing and more than not, your timing is off causing you to smack your face into the ground. Also, the gameplay is far from realistic if it comes to trick combos, but that’s what makes these games so fun. You try to chain the most difficult tricks together to get your high score as high as possible.
#OLLIOLLI SWITCH STANCE REVIEW MANUAL#
Both games have the same gameplay, where OlliOlli 2 added the manual as a trick to combine other tricks. Your First Look at OlliOlli on PS Vita In late January, a PS Vita-exclusive skateboarding game called OlliOlli will launch. OlliOlli: Switch Stance contains two games: OlliOlli and OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood. However, I really wanted some kind of skateboarding game on my Nintendo Switch so I got this game on sale. In the past years, I’ve seen the OlliOlli games multiple times and every time I felt they wouldn’t satisfy my Tony Hawk-like skateboarding In the past years, I’ve seen the OlliOlli games multiple times and every time I felt they wouldn’t satisfy my Tony Hawk-like skateboarding urges.
